Honduras' capital, Tegucigalpa, has its colonial charms. Apart from the San Miguel Arcangel church located on Central Park and some other smaller churches, the Manuel Bonilla National Theater, and the Villa Roy National Museum, there are many charming colonial villages within a short drive. One peaceful and attractive village is Ojojona, about 30-minute's drive on the highway to the south. Another half-hour down the same highway is Pespire, a pretty town dominated by a colonial church. A short distance off the highway to the eastern department of El Paraiso is the department capital, Yuscar n. This former mining town remains one of our best preserved and most picturesque colonial cities. A 20-minute drive from Tegucigalpa will bring you to the pretty village of Santa Lucia. A little ways beyond Santa Lucia is Valle de Angeles, a lovely colonial town which has become a center for the craft of woodcarving. The many artistry stores in town have converted Valle de Angeles into a clearinghouse for all types of fired, woven, carved and otherwise created handicrafts.

The Lenca trail will probably never become a highly trafficked tourist route, but that makes the experience much more attractive and authentic for those willing to venture off the beaten path. The charming esthetic of our colonial past combined with the warm hospitality of the traditional Lenca people combine to create a unique and authentic cultural adventure.
